Age Limits
At GoDrive Tanzania Rent a Car, the minimum age to rent a vehicle in Tanzania is typically 21 years. Drivers aged 21–24 years are considered young drivers and may be subject to an additional young driver surcharge or extra fee.
Driving Licence Requirements
Renters must present a valid National Driving Licence when collecting their vehicle. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is required in addition to the national licence if the licence is not written in the Latin alphabet (for example, Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, or Japanese).
IDP requirements may also vary depending on the destination country and rental provider. Renters should carry their passport or other valid identification, National Driving Licence, and, where applicable, an International Driving Permit when collecting the rental vehicle.

Payment and Deposit
- Rental charges must be paid before or at the time of vehicle collection.
- A security deposit is usually required and may be refunded after the vehicle is returned in good condition, subject to the rental agreement.
- Additional charges may apply for late returns, additional drivers, optional equipment, or other extra services.
Cancellation Policy
- Cancellation less than 48 hours before pickup: 100% cancellation charges apply (no refund).
- Cancellation more than 48 hours before pickup: 50% refund or partial refund may apply.
- Cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup: A 30% cancellation fee may apply, with a 70% refund.
- No refund will be provided for unused rental days if the vehicle is returned earlier than agreed.
- Some bookings may qualify for different cancellation policies depending on the rental conditions and promotional offers.
Road Traffic Fines and Violations in Tanzania
The renter and all authorised drivers are solely responsible for complying with all traffic laws, regulations, road signs, and driving requirements in Tanzania during the rental period.
Any of the following incurred during the rental period shall be the sole responsibility of the renter:
- Traffic fines
- Parking violations
- Toll charges
- Traffic camera offences
- Towing charges
- Vehicle impound fees
- Court costs
- Administrative penalties
- Any other related charges
If GoDrive Tanzania Rent a Car is required to pay any fine, penalty, or administrative charge on behalf of the renter, the renter authorises the company to recover the full amount, including any applicable administrative handling fees.
The renter remains liable for all violations issued during the rental period, even if notices are received after the vehicle has been returned.
Failure to settle outstanding charges may result in additional administrative costs and legal recovery action where permitted by law.
Road Use Restrictions for Sedans, MPVs, SUV 2WD and Station Wagons
All Sedans, MPVs, SUV 2WD vehicles, and Station Wagons are strictly permitted for use on paved (tarmac) roads only.
These vehicles must not be driven on:
- Unpaved roads
- Gravel roads
- Dirt tracks
- Off-road routes
- Remote rural areas where road conditions may be unsuitable
Any damage resulting from driving on prohibited roads or terrain will not be covered under the rental agreement and may result in additional charges for repairs, recovery, towing, and related costs.
Vehicle Care and Responsibility
The care, proper use, security, and safekeeping of the vehicle are the sole responsibility of the renter, all authorised drivers, and any person permitted to operate the vehicle during the rental period.
The customer must take all reasonable precautions to protect the vehicle from:
- Loss
- Theft
- Damage
- Misuse
- Negligence
- Unauthorised use
The vehicle must always be operated safely and responsibly in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Any loss or damage resulting from improper use, negligence, reckless driving, unauthorised use, or failure to exercise reasonable care may result in additional charges, including but not limited to:
- Repairs
- Replacement costs
- Recovery charges
- Towing fees
- Loss of use charges
- Any other related expenses
Vehicle Use
- The vehicle must be used only for lawful purposes.
- Off-road driving is prohibited unless specifically authorised.
- The renter is responsible for all traffic fines, penalties, and toll charges incurred during the rental period.
- Vehicles are not permitted to enter any National Park unless they are approved 4×4 Safari vehicles.
- The vehicle must not be sublet or driven by any unauthorised person.
- All Sedans, MPVs, SUV 2WD vehicles, and Station Wagons are strictly permitted for use on paved (tarmac) roads only.
- Insurance coverage may become void if the vehicle is driven negligently, by an unauthorised driver, or on prohibited roads.
Dispute Resolution and Litigation
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising from or relating to this rental agreement, the use of the vehicle, or any services provided by GoDrive Tanzania Rent a Car shall first be resolved through good-faith negotiations between the parties.
If the dispute cannot be resolved amicably within a reasonable period, either party may refer the matter to mediation or pursue legal action through the competent courts of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The renter agrees that all legal proceedings arising from or relating to this agreement shall be governed by the laws of Tanzania and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Tanzania.
The renter remains responsible for all outstanding rental charges, damages, fines, penalties, and other obligations under this agreement regardless of any dispute.
GoDrive Tanzania Rent a Car reserves the right to recover all outstanding amounts, including reasonable legal fees, court costs, and collection expenses where permitted by law.
Fuel and Return Conditions
- The vehicle should be returned with the agreed fuel level.
- Excess cleaning charges may apply if the vehicle is returned in an excessively dirty condition.
- Charges may apply for missing accessories, keys, documents, or equipment supplied with the vehicle.
Road Accidents in Tanzania
For any road accident claim or legal proceeding in Tanzania, a police report is generally essential and is often required, particularly where there are injuries, significant vehicle damage, insurance claims, or court proceedings.
Under the Tanzanian Road Traffic Act, drivers involved in certain accidents must report the incident to the police as soon as reasonably possible and generally within the legally required reporting period.
Supporting Evidence
Supporting evidence may include, but is not limited to:
- Police report (such as PF90, PF93, Sketch Map, or Police Abstract)
- Photographs of the accident scene and vehicle damage
- Medical reports relating to injuries
- Vehicle inspection reports
- Witness statements
